Shoot Information

Your family shoot…

  • Will be a fun experience.  With lots of playing and interacting with your children.
  • I love to mix documentary-style and portrait photography with an artistic and personal approach. I love playing with movement and shadows and how they interact with the human form. Most of all I love visually expressing the emotion within a moment. The result will be a set of casual but creative images that celebrate who you are as a family.
  • All family shoots are done on location. Indoors, or outdoors  in  a natural setting…the choice is yours. Or perhaps there is a secret or sentimental place that would make the perfect personal backdrop. Anything is possible. Alternatively, if there’s a something special that you enjoy doing together – like cooking, surfing, cycling…then let me know and I can incorporate it into your shoot.

Tips for the Shoot

  • Bring two sets of clothing to introduce variety into the images.
  • Wear something that reflects your personalities.  If you love beads, wear them!
  • Keep to either dark or light colours, so pinks aren’t mixed with reds.
  • Wear something comfortable and casual, like your favourite dress, jeans, sandals.
  • Remember extras like jewellery and accessories.
  • Steer away from fake-tan unless it’s done professionally. Also, if you’re getting some sun beforehand try to avoid strap marks.
  • Wear something comfy like jeans and T-shirt, and bring an extra item of clothing if you want to change into a shirt.
  • Bring an extra set of clothing.
  • If  they are little, bring along a favourite toy.  For beach shoots, please bring a ball, blanket and anything else they might like to play with.
  • Pack in wet wipes, drinks and snacks for them.

What to Expect

  • The shoot will last between one and two hours, depending on which package you choose.
  • Shoots take place during the week, Monday to Friday. Otherwise on Sundays if I have availability.
  • Early morning or early evening in summer is ideal when the light is the most flattering.  During winter, later mornings and earlier afternoons would work.
  • My shoots are very relaxed.  I want you to have fun as a family, so I document moments as they happen when you are interacting with your children.
  • Before I studied photography, I spent 13 years as a Montessori nursery school teacher and nanny in Europe, so I have loads of kiddie experience.
